{"id":60,"date":"2016-12-02T10:00:45","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T09:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/totaltheme.wpengine.com\/corporate\/?p=60"},"modified":"2018-01-23T10:15:37","modified_gmt":"2018-01-23T09:15:37","slug":"ct-tfm-roig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/game-csic.com\/en\/ct-tfm-roig\/","title":{"rendered":"The computed tomography (CT) scanner to quantify the carbon sink associated with seagrass meadows."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_pb_row et_pb_row_0\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column_0\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text et_pb_module et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_text_0\">\n<p>Clara Roig presented her master's thesis to the UB panel a few days ago after months of working with the GAME team at CEAB-CSIC.<\/p>\n<p>His work proposes the use of computed tomography (CT) to non-destructively quantify the proportion of organic and inorganic fractions in a sediment core from a meadow. <em>Posidonia oceanica<\/em> from the Cabrera Archipelago National Park, in the Balearic Islands, extracted by GAME.<\/p>\n<p>The images from the survey have been analysed and compared with the results of the standard analytical methods (<em>Loss on ignition<\/em> for the analysis of organic matter and Bernard Calcimetries for the analysis of inorganic carbon) with the aim of finding correlations.<\/p>\n<p>The results show a high correlation, suggesting the real possibility of using methodologies such as computed tomography (CT) to quantify the size of the organic and inorganic carbon sink associated with marine seagrass bed sediments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column_1\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et-waypoint et_pb_image et_pb_animation_left et_pb_image_0 et_always_center_on_mobile et-animated\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et-waypoint et_pb_image et_pb_animation_left et_pb_image_1 et_always_center_on_mobile et-animated\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/game-csic.comsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/imatges-CT.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et-waypoint et_pb_image et_pb_animation_left et_pb_image_1 et_always_center_on_mobile et-animated\">Fig1.
