Dra. Mokos visiting GAME
Melita Mokos is a marine biologist, PhD, working as a postdoc at the University of Zadar, Croatia at the Department of Ecology, Agronomy and Aquaculture. She is now visiting CEAB Group of aquatic macrophyte ecology (GAME) through Erasmus+ call for short mobility with the purpose to learn about coastal blue carbon research and methods for measuring blue carbon in seagrass and salt marshes. She pretends also to learn about basic biogeochemical characterization of the carbon sink associated to those ecosystems and to learn about the mechanisms of valorization (monetization) of the blue carbon as a coastal resource as she is interested in blue carbon in the context of climate change mitigation.
Her PhD research was focused on the effect of sedimentation on growth and distribution of seagrasses in the western part of Novigrad Sea, Croatia. Additionally, she is working on marine science outreach and ocean literacy in the Mediterranean and is a member of European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA). She is coordinating EMSEA regional Mediterranean group.
Experience and knowledge gained at GAME group will allow her to start with the blue carbon research in the eastern Adriatic coast. We are happy to have her around and hoping she enjoys the stay in Blanes!
