Description

The aim of this research is to study long-term time series of data from seagrass Posidonia records in the Mediterranean Sea and Australia to address key and novel questions related to coastal environmental change. The specific objectives of this research are:

Objective 1

Reconstruct the effects of anthropogenic stressors on the dynamics of the Posidonia seagrass ecosystem in the Mediterranean and Australian regions during the Holocene.

Objective 2

Reconstruct the emissions (and production) of metals from ancient civilizations to the present during the Holocene and the associated causes (e.g., land use change, fires, smelting, and industry) in the Mediterranean and Australian regions.

Objective 3

Reconstruct the history of plastic pollution in the coastal regions of the Mediterranean and Australia.
