About me
I am from Canet de Mar, a small coastal town in Maresme (Catalonia), where growing up between the sea and the mountains sparked my interest in understanding natural ecosystems and their conservation.
I graduated in Environmental Sciences from the University of Girona (UdG), doing my internship at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA)Subsequently, I took the course in the Master's in Renewable Energies and Energy Sustainability at the University of Barcelona (UB).
I am currently carrying out the Master's in Oceanography and Marine Environment Management at the UB.
In this context, I have joined the Aquatic Macrophyte Ecology Group (AMEG) to develop my Master's Final Project, focused on the design and evaluation of a blue carbon offset project, under the supervision of Miguel Ángel Mateo and Oscar Serrano.
At the same time, I have worked as an environmental consultant participating in impact assessments, environmental data analysis, and applied sustainability projects in companies.
Hobbies
Sport (football, tennis and padel).
Diving, snorkelling and sea activities.

Scientific interests
Conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems.
Blue carbon and coastal ecosystem services.
Environmental impact and sustainability assessment.
Project in the GAME
Gerard's project studies the role of meadows of Posidonia oceanica In the bay of Portlligat (Cap de Creus Natural Park) as blue carbon ecosystems. Using orthophotographs, geoacoustic techniques, and sediment analysis, changes in meadow coverage and the carbon stocks stored in their sediments will be assessed. The aim is to improve understanding of these ecosystems and explore their potential for carbon offset projects and their integration into climate and conservation policies.
