My thesis project will mainly focus on estimating Blue carbon stock as well as emission factors in seagrass meadows, specifically (Posidonia oceanica and Cymodocea nodosa). The sampling will be carried out in different Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) along the Tunisian coast. In fact, it will investigate the synergy that exists between Marine Protected Areas and carbon sequestration. Within the framework of this thesis, we will also examine the impact of anthropogenic activity on Blue carbon sequestration by comparing the Blue carbon stock in seagrass meadows that have been under pressure for a long period of time with other meadows that are supposed to be within MPAs.
