About me
I am Roberto Velázquez Ochoa (Mazatlán, Mexico, 1989), graduate in Fisheries Biology from the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the Autonomous University of SinaloaI completed my postgraduate studies in the Graduate Programme in Marine Science and Limnology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
I graduated as Doctor of Science in November 2023, with the project: "Changes in the reef seagrass meadow in response to nutrient enrichment. Identification of bioindicators in different phases of the habitat transformation process, including early bioindicators of environmental deterioration due to eutrophication".
During the development of this work, I also collaborated on the project: "Physiological and optical characterisation of the three genetic variants of pelagic sargassum that arrive en masse in the Mexican Caribbean".
Subsequently, from November 2023 to January 2026, I worked as SNII-III Research Assistant in the Laboratory of Photobiology and Functional Allometry of the Academic Unit of Reef Systems Puerto Morelos, belonging to the Institute of Marine Sciences and Limnology of UNAM.

Scientific interests
My primary objective is to study how aquatic plant communities function from a functional perspective, using a wide variety of descriptors (optical, physiological, morphological, biochemical, etc.) and considering different levels of biological organisation, to differentiate natural variability from alterations associated with stress and environmental deterioration.
