Melita Mokos is a marine biologist, PhD, working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zadar, Croatia, in the Department of Ecology, Agronomy and Aquaculture. She is currently visiting the CEAB Group of Aquatic Macrophyte Ecology (GAME) through an Erasmus+ short mobility grant with the aim of learning about coastal blue carbon research and methods for measuring blue carbon in seagrass and salt marshes. She also intends to learn about the basic biogeochemical characterisation of the carbon sink associated with these ecosystems and to understand the mechanisms for the valorisation (monetisation) of blue carbon as a coastal resource, as she is interested in blue carbon in the context of climate change mitigation.

Her PhD research focused on the effect of sedimentation on the growth and distribution of seagrasses in the western part of the Novigrad Sea, Croatia. Additionally, she is involved in marine science outreach and ocean literacy in the Mediterranean and is a member of the European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA). She coordinates the EMSEA regional Mediterranean group.

Experience and knowledge gained at GAME group will allow her to start with the blue carbon research on the eastern Adriatic coast. We are happy to have her here and hope she enjoys her stay in Blanes!
