Summary
The project NATURABEGUR Its main purpose is to improve the conservation status and biodiversity of the Montañas de Begur Natural Interest Area (EIN). Through a multidisciplinary approach, from 2024 to 2027, active management, scientific research, volunteering, and environmental education actions will be carried out to ensure the preservation of the good conservation status of the maritime-terrestrial natural heritage of this privileged environment.
The main actions include the eradication of invasive plant species, the waste removal terrestrial and marine restoration of marine habitats —especially meadows of Posidonia oceanica—, the impact assessment of vessel mooring, and the organisation of environmental education workshops and citizen science projects Focused on biodiversity and waste issues.
GAME primarily collaborates in actions focused on to study the population dynamics of Posidonia oceanica and its role in the mitigation and adaptation to climate change through carbon storage (Blue Carbon), and analyze the effects of vessel anchoring over the meadows of Posidonia oceanica as well as develop restoration actions by replanting uprooted bundles.
